As of November 2023, India has 895 kilometres (556 miles) of operational metro lines and 16 systems. India's metro network is the third longest in the world, behind China and USA. A further 568.15 km of lines are under construction.

In line with the Prime Minister's vision to transform regional connectivity in the country through the construction of new world-class transport infrastructure, the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project is being developed. RRTS is a new rail-based, semi-high-speed, high-frequency commuter transit system.

National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) was incorporated on 12th February 2016 under the Companies Act, 2013 with an object to finance, construct, maintain and manage the High Speed Rail Corridor in India. The NHSRCL has made progress in pier casting and girder launching, with the first trial run scheduled for August 2026.

DFCCIL has been designated by the Government of India as a Govt. of India(Ministry of Railways) Enterprise, and has been created to undertake planning & development, mobilisation of financial resources and construction, maintenance and operation of the Dedicated Freight Corridors. Covering 3381km route passing through 9 states.
